If you’ve got cellulite, most likely you have been looking for some kind of cellulite treatment to get rid of it. And, most likely, you are still looking for the best cellulite treatment that will work for you. The first thing you should know is that cellulite is not something you can get rid of overnight, and that many treatments are not as effective as they claim to be. However, there are many treatment options and we will now examine which ones are really able to bring you the results you desire.
There are different approaches to treating cellulite. Some say applying topical products is enough to treat it, others recommend more intrusive methods. As cellulite is not a medical problem, but rather a cosmetic one, there has not been many serious scientific researches conducted to prove the efficacy of any given cellulite treatment. Keep this in mind when making a decision to resort to surgical methods of treatment.
There are many cellulite removal methods that may work because they have shown some success for many people. There are also other cellulite treatment options that have not been proven to work and that may not be safe. Some of them can even have dangerous side-effects. This is especially true of invasive surgical procedures.
Some cellulite treatment options can give you temporary results and other ones are more long-term solutions. It is important to know the truth about each cellulite treatment before making a choice.
Diet And Exercise
Cellulite diet combined with exercise is the most effective and safe natural cellulite treatment, although it is more a way of living than a real treatment. If you can supply your body with enough vitamins, especially Vitamin C, which takes part in forming collagen, you can keep your skin stretchy enough and young looking.
Cutting down on fats in your daily ration may help your body to burn more fat deposits and decrease cellulite.
Exercise improves body liquids’ circulation and provides the skin with the nourishment and detoxification it needs. It also builds up muscles and burns off fats.
Cellulite creams and lotions
There are many creams and lotions which were created to reduce the appearance of cellulite on the skin. Many manufacturers make miracle claims on their products. These creams are not cheap, however they are usually the cheapest cellulite treatment options among all the available ones.
Some of these creams contain chemical agents to even up the skin. This produces some temporary results in making cellulite less visible. These topicals do not treat the cause of cellulite. They only improve the look of it for a short while and do not offer long-term results.
Other creams contain caffeine. It is believed that caffeine is able to dissolve fat inside the cells and it also contains antioxidants. However, when applied topically there is no proof that it can deliver the same results. The skin fat lies underneath the epidermis and dermis. So, if you decide to give those cellulite creams a try, you should look for the ones that also contain ingredients which allow caffeine to penetrate deep inside the skin and reach the fat deposits.
Massages and body wraps
Many believe that massaging, body brushing or cellulite body wraps can help to get rid of cellulite. Sometimes we may hear people say these treatments break down the fat in the fat cells and remove it from under the skin. This is one of the cellulite related myths. Such cellulite treatment cannot break down fat, but it certainly can improve the overall health condition of your body.
Massages improve the blood and lymph circulation in muscles and skin. Improved circulation of liquids provides the skin with better nourishment and enables it to remove toxins faster. This keeps the skin healthy, smooth and elastic, which also improves the look of cellulite and reduces the bumpiness by getting the toxins out of fat cells. These treatments are effective as an add-on, especially when combined with proper diet and exercise.
Liposuction
For a while this treatment was believed to remove cellulite, but as cellulite is not caused by under skin fat, but rather by the fat inside the skin, liposuction cannot remove it. In some cases, it can make it look even worse.
Liposuction may damage the connective tissues, which attach the skin to muscles. These connective tissues play a valid role in forming cellulite. If they stiffen or get damaged, they pull the skin harder down and form this mattress look effect on the skin, which makes the inside skin fat cells to stick up out of the skin even more.
Mesotherapy / Lipodissolve
These cellulite removal techniques refer to a series of micro-injections of a product in the cellulite areas of the skin. The product injected contains “vitamins, herbs and homeopathic medicines”. As far as Lipodissolve is concerned, it uses two different ingredients called phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholate, but the principle of the treatment is the same as classical mesotherapy.
The purpose of mesotherapy is to break up cellulite and melt fat by improving blood and lymph circulation. You should know that these treatments have been effective but have also been disastrous for many people, who have seen a lot of complications such as infections, wounds, or abscesses, to give a few examples.
Lower Body Lift
During this surgery the excessive skin is being removed. Skin stretches and becomes more even and smoother. This produces great visual effects. It does not treat cellulite, neither does it eliminate its cause, but reduces the appearance of cellulite. However, you should know that this is one of the most intrusive surgical methods for improving a cellulite condition and there are many risks associated, including scarring.
Cellulite Subcision
This treatment is used to remove acne scars. It is a surgery. A sharp knife, v-shaped, is moved under the skin to cut the connective tissues which pull the skin down. This method is highly traumatic. It damages the skin connective tissues with no restoration available.
It does show long lasting results in removing cellulite, as it treats its cause. However, it cannot be performed on all parts of the body and there are possible restrictions to its implementation. It has to be used with care.
Velasmooth
This is a treatment where several approaches are used. This device performs skin massage, suction massage, radiofrequency therapy and infrared light therapy.
There has been no serious research carried out on its efficacy. However, it can deliver temporary skin smoothing and cellulite appearance improving results.
Endermologie
This is a non invasive cellulite treatment. It claims to treat cellulite through suction massage. It is supposed to improve liquids circulation in the skin and muscles and to lessen the water retention. It evens up the skin and makes cellulite less visible. This treatment is also supposed to help the skin to produce more collagen to keep it elastic.
No serious research was done on this method of cellulite removal. It does improve the skin look to some degree, but to maintain such improvement the treatment should be repeated constantly.
Fat Injections
This treatment includes 2 steps: the first step is getting your own body fat out through liposuction. Then it is re-injected into the skin on the cellulite areas to make the skin a bit thicker and smoother. These injections do not eliminate the causes of cellulite, but they improve the look of the skin and make it less bumpy.
In most cases, fat injections or grafting is not a permanent solution. Over time, injected fat cells may get dissolved and the bumpiness might come back. Besides, successful and lasting grafting can be done only by an experienced surgeon.
Acoustic Wave Therapy
This is a rather new cellulite treatment. The aim of this therapy is to break down stiffened connective tissues. These tissues are made of collagen, but with aging they stiffen and increase the pull on the skin. They are responsible for the bumpy look of cellulite, as the fat cells push the skin up, while the connective tissues pull it down.
Acoustic waves break down these tissues, which evens up the skin. Even though this method has been used to treat such conditions as kidney problems, there has not been a lot of research conducted on its efficacy for treating cellulite.
All the above listed cellulite treatment methods may deliver some results in cellulite reduction. Just remember there is no cellulite cure but you can definitely find a way to reduce the visibility of cellulite.
